Afterschool Podcasting is a unique suite of out-of-school-time programs where kids in 4th through 12th grade learn the ins and outs of creating exceptional podcasts!
In these fun, hands-on experiences, students learn the power of their own voices by learning real-world techniques of planning, writing, recording, and editing excellent audio series. We’re proud to have seen this foster media literacy, career readiness, teamwork, and confidence in students from different backgrounds and communities around the country.
We offer this program in three different formats, designed to fit a wide range of budgets, timelines, and program scales:
Podcast Jumpstart
One-time hands-on workshops where students learn the basics of podcasting and record their own episode in just two hours.
Low cost and low commitment, this is perfect as an introduction to Afterschool Podcasting or as enrichment for short-term programs.
Podcast Club
In regular meetings over the course of a school term or semester, students learn the ins and outs of podcasting, culminating in the creation and publication of their own short series.
Built to fit the shape of your program, this comprehensive course gives kids real experience in every aspect of media production, from planning and scripting to recording to editing to publishing.
The short series they produce over the program is totally student-led, giving them the chance to share something with family and friends that they conceived and created themselves.

"Working with Citizen Racecar over the last two years has helped create pure magic with the students at my site. Our coach, Kelly, has been instrumental in helping our students find their voice and develop into young professionals. A student podcaster at my site has found his calling through podcasting. His experiences over the last two years with Podcast Education and Formative, have directly shaped his professional plans after high school and have helped him tremendously on a personal level. It’s been awesome to see the pride students have after working for weeks to publish an episode! Amazing partnership!"

"The podcast workshop for middle schoolers is absolutely engaging and educational. So many of our students have a voice and don't always know how to direct their opinions in the right way or in the right space. Our students have been non-stop raving about their experience and what they created. We recommend the educational value of this workshop and the positive impact it has on students that partake in the program. It also seemed seamless to teach the students on how to create a podcast."
